Musculoskeletal disorders and how Pilates can help
Anneli has just attended a course that gives new information on how Pilates can help you if you have have osteoarthritis, joint replacements, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injury, low back pain, spinal stenosis, osteopenia or osteoporosis.
The musculoskeletal system in the body is made up of the skeleton and its muscles working together, along with ligaments, tendons, cartilage and other connective tissue.
When this system doesn’t work properly it typically causes pain - often persistent - as well as limiting a person’s ability to function normally in day to day life. It can affect joints, muscles, bones as well as the spine.
Most of these conditions benefit from movement. Research shows that appropriate exercise generally helps to reduce pain, stiffness as well as swelling.
Can this be done through Pilates? Yes, as Pilates can be a very gentle, though controlled programme to do with a qualified teacher. Anneli has been a Body Control Pilates teacher since 2009 and has had clients with a whole range of musculoskeletal problems - by coming regularly, her clients feel they both improve and can keep any symptoms at bay.
Anneli, who also holds a BSc in Physiotherapy, thoroughly enjoys teaching Pilates as a way of helping people find good body movement.
