Where's your head at?
Are you aware you body is constantly trying to stop you from face planting?
For every inch the head moves forward of its midline position, the body has to bear an additional 4.5kg of force. That could be up to 19kg!
If your head is forward of your midline the body has to make some big adaptations.
Early changes can be seen head to toe throughout the body. Such as the foot having to shoot out further infant of you whilst walking and running, increased spinal curves and muscular imbalances.
Later, changes can be seen as altered loading through joints, increased pressure in the pelvic organs (leaking and prolapse), disc injuries and degenerative change
How to improve your alignment:
1. Back your hips up
2. Light engagement of the abs
3. Keep your front ribs down
4. Open the front of the chest
5. Lengthen your neck
If you need a cue, stand with your back against a wall and see if you can get your heels, tail bone, mid back and back of your head to make contact.
If it feels strained, take your feet a few inches away from the wall. This is a good benchmark to work from and note your progress. Over time, keep working those heels back towards the wall and note your improved alignment.
Think plumb line linking ankle bone, side of the knee, hip joint, tip of shoulder and ear lobe.
Practice this every day, all day, for the rest of your life!
You are work in progress.
